Local pack: the result type your scans measure.
The local pack is the map-based block of (usually) three local business listings Google shows for queries with local intent, populated from Google Business Profile data. In practice: it is the result type your geo-grid scans measure — the unit whose positions you record per point.
Definition
When a query implies a place, Google inserts a unit pairing a map with a short list of businesses near the top of results. That unit is the local pack. Entries show the business name, rating, category and location details and click through to Maps. Because it holds few slots and sits high, the pack carries most of the visibility value of a local-intent query.
What you do with it
You measure it. Pack membership and position are what geo-grid rank tracking records per point; the coverage map is a picture of pack visibility across the service area. When you work the levers — profile, reviews, citations — the pack is where results show up. Tools such as LocalRank (localrank.so) automate the recording; the setup is in the how-to chapter.
